Introduction

The Stations, or Way of the Cross, is a traditional method of meditating upon Christ's suffering and death. Catholics, in imitation of pilgrims to Jerusalem, have a custom of going from image to image, praying and meditating on our Lord's passion and death.

The traditional 14 stations include several incidents which are not described in Scripture but are based on pious traditions. The scripture presented here for the 3 falls of Jesus, Veronica's veil, and Jesus' meeting his mother on the way to the cross are not from the passion texts.

At Visitation, we have a public meditation on the Fridays of Lent.

It is customary at each station to pray:
We adore You,
O Christ, and we praise You;
Because by Your Holy Cross, You have redeemed the world.
